Retrieval of Total Columnar Ozone from the Ocean Land Colour Instrument: Algorithm, Validation and Applications.

An algorithm to retrieve columnar ozone from OLCI L1b measurements is described. It is based on a spectral fitting method of the Chappuis absorption band and its validadity is demonstrated using modelled data. This algorithm is applied to the MERIS data. These total columnar ozone retrievals are validated against in-situ measurements of total columnar ozone carried out at the Antarctica stations. The retrievals are further compared to the OMI (Ozone Monitoring Instrument) retrievals and to ECMWF analysis and re-analysis data. Temporal synthesis products over Antarctica demonstrate a daily coverage of the continent. The domain of application of the algorithm and its associated uncertainties are discussed.
