Considering the current use and the potential usage of the satellite Essential Climate Variables (ECVs), the Climate Modelling Users Group (CMUG) expressed requirements for the ECVs, which were then given to the ECV teams of the Climate Change Iniatiave (CCI). In link with different applications such as the study of interannual variations, the study of the Ozone hole or the assessment of trends of interest to the CNRMCCM chemistry-climate Model, IASI data (LEVEL 2 from LATMOS or Level3 derived from Eumetsat level2) were used as prototype ECVs. Some products (level 3 mostly) recently delivered by the CCI ECV teams were then tested with the same tools used for the precursors and compared with the results obtained with these precursors. The results of this assessment are presented and new ideas for the phase 2 of CCI are proposed.
